Dear Readers,
It’s almost difficult for me to physically write about politics anymore. I have been arguing for what’s right for so long that I can hardly muster up the strength to say much more. But I will mention a few things that has just baffled me (among the ½ trillion other things that have stumbled out of McCain’s chortling pie hole).
First:
How does Obama’s ad saying McCain is out of touch even compare to McCain’s ad claiming that Obama is a terrorist? Does he realize what kind of weight those accusations carry? That’s like calling a Salem woman a witch in 1692… like calling a quiet American a communist during the cold war… like calling a woman out on her boob-job in the midwest. In every case, people are so ready to attack. And why? Because people are scared. They were scared of independent women in 1692, of the Americans thinking outside of the post-WWII atom-bombed-fearin’ America, of the woman who might turn Plainfield into Orange County. And of course they’re scared that Barack might actually prove them all wrong in that the government can work for the people. What?? (bite your tongue!)
Second:
And for God’s sake – there are other American’s out there that have names other than JOE. I think at one point McDoodle started talking to this “Joe” as if he were an actual person. Joe Six-Pack. Joe Plumber. Joe Farmer. I like to make this campaign personal and therefore insert names of Americans I know and like. Bridget Six Pack. Matt Plumber. Anne Farmer. Marr Six Pack. Shama Plumber. Dena Farmer. Hanna Six Pack. Nicole Plumber. Katie Farmer. Bridget Amazing. (a legitimate career)
Third:
Thank you McCain, but I do NOT believe that Palin is a good example for women. She is a woman. Check. She’s probably great to have a beer with. Check. She is running for a campaign that thinks the government should stay out of people’s business unless it comes to a woman’s body, in which case then it IS their business. I’ll make sure to take all my pap tests, breast exams and intimate history up to Ms. Palin and Mr. McCain and say, “Hey is this ok with you? Am I good enough now? Can I please get my $5,000 go-away-now-problem-I-don’t-see-you health voucher?” UN CHECK.
I heard someone I respect say this last week that I found so simple, yet so important. And I’m paraphrasing, “Everyone is talking about taxes – taxes this taxes that, but what is the government for but to support and protect the people of its country? Stop taking away money that goes to the programs that people need.” And I’d like to add this – that if we do, it will be like Hurricane Katrina nationwide and god forbid… in YOUR BACKYARD.
And now I’m spent.
