Dearest Readers,

How could I not talk about IT?  Did you expect to open up my page to a new post that was related to something other than IT?  What else is there to say about this moment that hasn’t already been said about IT?  The IT: The recently elected 44th president of the United States of America.  I’m not sure, but I’m going to try.

Tuesday evening marked a moment so magnanimous that people well into their middle-age had seen IT for the first time in their lives.  IT was a moment that magnified the subdued voices of Americans everywhere.  WE were heard.  Some subdued the power of their voices through cynicism.  Some subdued the power of their voices in frustration.  Some subdued the power of their voices because someone told them their voice was not American-enough.  I’ll be brief because I know that all the amazing lines that describe this unabashed feeling of hope and pride were written far more eloquently and precise than I could ever emote.  IT is really simple for me.  We as a people are changing.  No longer do we have to passively follow the ideals of those of which we do not agree.  We have made the change.  We have united as a people without even knowing each others names, because we don’t need to know each others names to know that we are striving for better.  We are a people that for the first time in my lifetime are united.

What has inspired me more so than the historical event is how it has affected those in my life.  My friends have unfurled inner capabilities that they did not know they had.  My family for once, said nothing.  That is a feat not even God could impend upon them.  As for myself; I’m not quite sure yet.  I’ve definitely been tossed into the throws of confrontation.  I want to learn more about things I never once thought I had an interest in.  I want to be a better me.  I can only hope IT continues.  But hope is what got us here and drive is what will get us there.  And once we are there, hope again.

As for those who, despite this epic moment, elected not to participate in anyway; that is your right.  And I too have the right to say; I just don’t understand.  All the choices we make MATTER.  For those who said it doesn’t matter, your choice not to choose will MATTER.  My family and friends hold views so polar opposite of mine that we end up screaming at each other.  And ten minutes later, we offer each other more coffee and the next time we might see each other again.  We did not share each other’s opinions but we did share the fact that we had one and wished to do something about it (in this case we opted for screaming).  Some of the greatest tragedies of humanity happened because apathy took a primary seat in their action to do nothing.

The Current Tragedy:  is that when people look back on this moment decades later to ask you what you did, your answer will be this; nothing.

To Summarize the ITs of this post:

-         Barack Obama is Elected President

-         People are United

-         I’m freakin’ inspired

-         For the love of god, just vote next time.  (What?  Did it get in the way of your apathy platform?)

Here, I’ll give you one more chance…
