Shortly after my new holiday purchase, I went to see 4 Christmases. Other than it being a completely linear and non-cohesive plot with little chemistry between the main characters, I laughed sometimes. I laughed and I asked questions.
Why is it that the guy gets to be the hilariously witty protagonist? I mean it’s a little disappointing. I feel a bit like Margaret Cho when she said she was disappointed by the lack of Asian-Americans in the main stream media. Except for this example, Asian-American is a witty-light-hearted-goofy female lead. The only other movie in which I saw someone come close was Jenna Elfman in Keeping the Faith. Very rarely have I seen a comedic female character in a movie where her character is still taken seriously but her energy and wit remains, well, witty and energetic. I mean, I’m having a hard time right now thinking of one. If I had the chance, I’d totally be the female Vince Vaughn in a movie. If I had the chance… Plus it would totally give me street cred. People would be like, “Are you a shorter, girlier and better-looking version of Vince Vaughn?” And I’d be like, “Hey, I’m just me, man. I don’t compare myself to anyone cause I don’t believe in trying to be someone else other than myself. And I’m reaching deep down into the cosmic parts of my soul to evolve into the DNAmic cell mass that is ME.” And that guy would be like, “Yeah, you’re right. I’ve never gotten so deep in a hypothetical shout-out from across the street.”
If I had the chance…
