To Fast or Not to Fast

**For some strange reason I have been thinking more and more about doing a fast. Perhaps it’s the 2 lbs of fancy cheeses I ate over the break or the bottles of wine my family and I consumed. But I’m sluggish and ughish and I want a change. Either way, I’m seriously consider doing a fast. Here’s a few that I’ve run across that have worked for people:

1.) The Master Cleanse
2.) Acai Berry Cleanse
3.) Juice Cleanse

Should I try? Should I not try? Some points to consider:
It would be great to say that I could jump into one of these – no problem. But other than the wretched hunger pains, dizziness and cravings that I’ve read about people having to face, I am a hypoglycemic. This means I suffer from low blood sugar and need to eat 5 times a day. Plus a majority of these cleanses are designed so that people can lose weight fast. That is not my goal. My goal is to feel good about what I am eating and to begin to crave the foods that are natural to us instead of the kalachkis that my mom just made (which are so fundamentally amazing… they are natural to my Polish blood). For example, I’ve heard from people after completing the Master Cleanse they wanted to eliminate their meat consumption. My grandma would gasp at the thought… and then tell me I needed to get my vitamins and serve me another slap of her pork roast and potatoes.

Working out is something I do a few times a week, so that isn’t really an issue. (Although I could be better about doing it consistently throughout the month.) Plus my walk to and from the train is at least 1.5 miles. Going vegan seems so drastic at this point. Again, as a hypoglycemic, eggs are my good morning god send of energy. If I start off the day with something like pancakes, I’m DONE FOR! I love you IHOP. I love you the way a diabetic loves Baker Square’s pies. We can only love from afar. Or love up close but with an insulin pump in hand.

“So what’s The Bridge going to do?” you ask. I’ll start with these:

1.)Eliminate dairy: I bought soy milk today for my cereal.
2.)Drink vegetable juice in between meals.
3.)Continue eating 3-4 raw fruits and veggies a day

I’ll keep you posted about my experience. But let’s face it. It gets dark at 4 p.m. The weather here is 9 degrees. And I don’t really ever feel like leaving the house. I’m pretty sure something in those three things has encouraged me to make some changes although right now I can’t tell. I’m tired too.

Leave a comment about your fasting experience.

**This post is not about New Year’s Resolutions. They are silly and no one sticks to them. If they do, it’s called a lifestyle change.
“So what’s your lifestyle change for the year?”
“I’m not sure, probably not pretending I will make a lifestyle change this year.”
I’m just sayin’… you know.. it’s all I’m sayin’. Thank you.

Get yourself a juicer and tons of green veggies and start slowly. Don’t jump into the cleanse until you are ready and have your juice recipes down. I suggest following Kris Carr’s guide – http://crazysexylife.com/2008/stages-of-fasting-pre-fasting/ Check this out and the related posts at the bottom. She also has a forum where you can find others with your issues and get pointers. Good luck!

Hey The Bridge. First you crack me up! On the “fasting”, I just saw the doctor from Celebrity Fit Club and he has The 4 Day Diet out. I bought the book and it looks like it’s pretty easy to stick to, and it includes eating!!! You should check it out.

Fasting would kill you or us. You get “testy” when low on sugar.
