Lethbridge Rolls Out Free Fall Leaf Collection Program for Residents

As autumn blankets the city, here is everything you need to know about scheduling your free curbside leaf pickup.

Autumn has officially arrived in Lethbridge, and with it comes the annual blanket of fallen leaves.

To help residents manage their yard cleanup, the City of Lethbridge has launched its popular Fall Leaf Collection program.

This service offers a convenient and free way for homeowners to dispose of their yard waste.

Residents can begin scheduling their pickups immediately by calling the city's 3-1-1 service line.

The window for booking a collection runs until November 7, so it's best to call sooner rather than later.

Once you call, customer service staff will provide you with a specific date for your collection.

Crews will be actively collecting bags throughout the city from October 7 until November 14.

To ensure a smooth pickup, there are several important guidelines to follow.

First, all leaves must be put into paper yard waste bags.

This requirement is crucial, as it allows the city to compost the leaves and bags together.

Place your filled bags in the same location where your regular waste carts are collected.

For those with front yard pickup, bags should be placed near the sidewalk on your property, not on the street itself.

It is also essential to leave at least 1.5 metres of clearance around your bags, keeping them clear of carts or other obstacles.

Bags should be set out 24 hours before your scheduled collection day to avoid being missed.

While there is no limit to the number of bags you can set out, each one must weigh no more than 25 pounds.

Residents are permitted to request up to two separate collections during the program window.

Of course, curbside pickup isn't the only option.

Homeowners can also mulch their leaves, use them for compost, or place them in their green cart for regular pickup.

The city’s yard waste and recycling depots will also accept leaves until they close for the season on November 16.

Keep in mind that weekly green cart collection will switch to a biweekly schedule in early November.
