Community and law enforcement unite to support local athletes |
The annual 'Cops, Pops, and Pizza' fundraiser in Lethbridge has once again demonstrated the community's unwavering support for Special Olympics Alberta.
On December 6, 2024, the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS), alongside other southern Alberta law enforcement agencies, partnered with Boston Pizza on Mayor Magrath Drive South to host this cherished event.
Officers and Special Olympics athletes served patrons, sold merchandise, and collected donations, all in the spirit of fostering inclusivity and athletic opportunity.
Boston Pizza's generous contribution of $5,815.70 set a strong foundation for the evening.
Combined with proceeds from merchandise sales and community donations, the event amassed an impressive total of $12,339.40.
Constable Braylon Hyggen of the LPS expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating, "It's been a fantastic evening. Boston Pizza, at the beginning of the event tonight, also gave us a cheque for over $5,800 to even kick this event off."
He emphasized the profound impact of such community-driven initiatives on local athletes.
Special Olympian Tamara Laursen highlighted the significance of these events, noting that the funds raised will assist athletes like herself in attending the provincial games in Grande Prairie in the summer of 2025.
She expressed appreciation for the involvement of first responders and the community's generosity, stating, "Events like these are great ways to get out into the community and to get involved."
The success of 'Cops, Pops, and Pizza' underscores the strong bond between Lethbridge's law enforcement and the community.
Through shared efforts, they continue to champion the cause of Special Olympics, ensuring that athletes have the resources and support they need to thrive.
As the community reflects on this achievement, the anticipation for future events grows, promising continued collaboration and support for Special Olympics Alberta. |
