A Run to Remember: Lethbridge Community Gathers to Honor Loved Ones

The second annual Run to Remember returns to Mountain View Cemetery on October 5th, blending personal reflection with community fitness in a unique, scenic setting.

A unique local tradition is taking root in one of Lethbridge’s most serene and historic locations.

For the second consecutive year, the City of Lethbridge Parks and Cemeteries team is inviting residents to the Run to Remember, an event that is much more than just a race.

On Sunday, October 5, 2025, the pathways of Mountain View Cemetery will once again fill with walkers and runners.

This event offers a powerful opportunity to celebrate life, honour the memory of loved ones, and strengthen community bonds in a deeply meaningful setting.

Following the success of last year's inaugural event, which saw over 150 people participate, the run has quickly become a cherished date on the local calendar.

It’s a deliberate effort to reframe cemeteries as spaces for living connections and active recreation.

Participants can choose between a 2.5K single loop or a 5K double loop through the cemetery’s historic and scenic grounds, making it accessible for all fitness levels.

Before the run begins, a moment of silence will be held, offering a quiet space for reflection.

To make the tribute personal, participants can write the names of those they are remembering on their race bibs and a special community memory board.

The experience is designed to be both personal and powerfully communal.

Organizers have confirmed the event will feature chip timing and custom medals, with awards for the top three male and female finishers across various age categories.

Feedback from last year was overwhelmingly positive, with many attendees noting it was their first time visiting the cemetery for a recreational purpose and praising the breathtaking scenery.

To ensure the safety of all participants, the cemetery gates will be closed to vehicle traffic from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on race day.

This event showcases the beautiful landscape of Mountain View Cemetery as a destination for both remembrance and recreation.

Registration for this poignant community event closes on October 4th.
