Lethbridge Unites for Remembrance Day with Ceremonies, Tributes, and Fly-bys

Lethbridge is set to observe Remembrance Day with a series of poignant events inviting the entire community to pay their respects to veterans and active service members.

 

The week of remembrance will commence with a public ceremony outside Lethbridge City Hall on Tuesday, November 4, at 1 p.m. for the raising of the poppy flag.

 

This moving event will be immediately followed by the official dedication of the new Veteran Commemorative Crosswalk.

 

The crosswalk, situated across from the Cenotaph, is a powerful new symbol of the city's commitment to honouring its military history.

 

On Tuesday, November 11, the community will have two distinct opportunities to gather for Remembrance Day services.

 

The  General Stewart Branch #4 of the Royal Canadian Legion will host an indoor parade and service at the Lethbridge Trade & Convention Centre.

 

Doors for this event will open at 10 a.m., with all attendees asked to be seated by 10:30 a.m. for the 10:45 a.m. ceremony.

 

This service will bring together Legion members, veterans, first responders, and local youth in a shared moment of reflection.

 

Simultaneously, an outdoor service will be held at the Cenotaph on Veterans Avenue (4 Avenue South), hosted by the 20th Independent Field Battery.

 

This traditional open-air ceremony will also begin at 10:45 a.m. and offers a different but equally solemn atmosphere for remembrance.

 

Adding to the day's tributes, spectacular fly-bys are planned for the downtown service, weather and operations permitting.

 

A vintage Harvard IV aircraft and a C-17 Globemaster from the 429 Transport Squadron (Royal Canadian Air Force) are expected to grace the skies above Lethbridge.

 

It's a breathtaking display designed to honour those who served from above.

 

Following the morning ceremonies, the Lethbridge Military Museum will open its doors to the public with free admission from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Located at the Vimy Ridge Armoury near the airport, the museum offers a chance to delve deeper into the region's rich military heritage.

 

These events provide a vital opportunity for all residents of Lethbridge and Southern Alberta to come together, reflect on sacrifices made, and extend gratitude to our veterans.
